Dream's program is intentionally more immersive than a minimum-hours course. The standard is not simply whether you attended class. The standard is whether you can care for the patient, run the equipment, recognize problems, troubleshoot, document accurately, score, understand therapy and independently complete a full PSG under supervision.

What is sleep technology?

Part patient care. Part physiology. Part technology. A lot of independent thinking.

A sleep technologist records and monitors the physiologic signals used to understand what happens while a patient sleeps.

You prepare the patient, place sensors, verify signals, monitor breathing, oxygen, brain activity and movement, recognize artifacts and clinical events, apply treatment protocols when ordered, troubleshoot equipment and create the technical record the interpreting provider depends on.

It can be an excellent fit for someone who likes healthcare but also likes technology, detail, problem solving and working independently.

Before lights out

Review the patient, prepare equipment, complete 10–20 measurements, place sensors, orient the patient and calibrate.

During the night

Monitor signals, correct artifacts, document events, follow protocols, troubleshoot and respond appropriately.

After the study

Complete lights-on procedures, preliminary scoring / summaries, clean documentation and a strong handoff.

Many education programs appropriately focus on the minimum classroom and hands-on requirements for a credential pathway. Dream's program intentionally adds a much longer period of clinical immersion so students can learn, practice, get corrected and repeat the skill with real patients.

Competency-based progression

Time alone does not make you competent.

Every major competency must be demonstrated satisfactorily before progression. When a skill is not yet there, the answer is more instruction, more practice and reassessment.

Tuition for the six-month program is $27,900. The program structure also includes a $200 stipend for each completed scheduled training shift.

Limited scholarship or tuition assistance may be available for serious, high-fit candidates. Availability and amount are determined individually and are not guaranteed.

For select candidates, additional financing or promissory-note options may also be available. After registration, certain separately documented employment-based tuition repayment or tuition-assistance arrangements may provide a path to reduce remaining tuition obligations over time while working in the Dream Sleep Center laboratory.

Scholarship, tuition assistance, financing, promissory-note and post-registration employment arrangements are separate written agreements. Eligibility and terms vary. Program completion does not guarantee employment, scholarship support, loan forgiveness or a specific repayment benefit.

BRPT-recognized education pathway

Dream Sleep Center is listed by BRPT as F020 · Focused.

STAR means Sleep Technology Approved Resource. BRPT lists Dream Sleep Center as a Focused STAR provider. BRPT describes Focused programs as structured programs combining self-study education with at least 80 hours of in-person lecture and hands-on skills training.

BRPT's current RPSGT Focused Training pathway requires qualifying clinical experience — currently 960 hours — plus qualifying STAR education and the other current application requirements. Dream's curriculum is designed around 960+ hours of field experience and its Focused STAR education.

Important: STAR is a BRPT education designation, not the RPSGT credential itself and not CAAHEP/CoARC accreditation. BRPT makes the final determination of exam eligibility. Candidates should review the current eligibility rules before enrolling and again before applying for an exam.
Who tends to do well

You do not need prior sleep-lab experience. You do need the right habits.

Healthcare experience is helpful, but it is not the only way to be a strong candidate. Motivation, reliability, problem solving and the ability to work independently matter enormously.

STAR trainee FAQs

Do I need prior sleep-lab or healthcare experience?

No prior sleep-lab experience is required. Healthcare experience is helpful, but Dream is also interested in highly motivated candidates with strong reliability, problem-solving ability, comfort with technology and a desire to help patients.

What is the schedule?

The program is designed around three training shifts per week over approximately six months, plus the required instructional and self-study work.

How much is tuition?

Program tuition is $27,900. The program structure includes a $200 stipend for each completed scheduled training shift. Limited scholarship or tuition assistance may be available for serious, high-fit candidates, but is not guaranteed. All financial terms are documented before enrollment.

Are scholarship, tuition assistance or financing options available?

Potentially. Limited scholarship or tuition assistance may be available for serious candidates after a fit review. For select candidates, financing or a promissory-note structure may also be available. After registration, certain separately documented employment-based tuition-repayment or tuition-assistance arrangements may help reduce remaining tuition obligations over time. None of these options is automatic or guaranteed, and exact terms are provided in separate written agreements.

Does the program guarantee me a job at Dream?

No. The program is designed to develop strong technologists, and Dream may have employment opportunities for successful graduates, but enrollment or completion does not guarantee employment.

Does completing the program make me an RPSGT?

No. RPSGT is a credential awarded by BRPT after a candidate meets BRPT's eligibility requirements and passes the RPSGT exam. Dream provides STAR-designated education and clinical training; BRPT controls credential eligibility and certification.

What is the difference between CPSGT and RPSGT?

CPSGT is BRPT's technician-level credential pathway, while RPSGT is the registered technologist credential. Which examination pathway is appropriate depends on your education, clinical experience and current BRPT eligibility requirements.

What happens if I do not pass a skill the first time?

The program is competency-based. Skills that are not yet satisfactory receive remediation, additional practice and reassessment before progression.

What are the basic prerequisites?

Candidates should be at least 18, have a high-school diploma or GED, be able to work overnight shifts and obtain/maintain qualifying BLS/CPR with a live-skills component. Final clinical requirements are confirmed before enrollment.

Can I keep another job while I am in the program?

Possibly, but the program is demanding: three sleep-lab shifts each week plus formal instruction and self-study. Candidates should realistically assess whether another job will interfere with attendance, sleep, study time or patient-care performance.

Is this a two-week course?

No. Dream intentionally uses a six-month integrated model so education can be reinforced through repeated real-world clinical experience rather than compressed into a short block.

What happens at the end?

Students must satisfactorily complete the required modules, competency sign-offs, cumulative written examination and supervised full-PSG capstone. A Dream program completion certificate is issued after requirements are met; BRPT credentialing is a separate process.
